Two local, family-owned businesses, now under one roof.
Turner’s and BL both started in the dairy industry in 1930. Since then, we’ve shared the same dedication to both innovation and production of high-quality products right here in Western PA.
BL got its name from founder Benjamin Lefkofsky, who originally began making sour cream in his East Liberty garage in 1930. In the 1950s, the company shifted its focus towards food distribution and moved production to Pittsburgh’s North Side and has since spanned four generations of the family business.
Our partnership with BL also goes back decades! For many years, Turner’s supplied BL Sour Cream with deliveries of raw cream to their former North Side production facility. In fact, former second-generation president of Turner’s, Chuck Turner Sr., delivered tankers of raw cream himself to their facility. The cream was then pasteurized and turned into their famous sour cream and french onion dip, known for their clean, crisp flavors.
Because of the decades long history of working together, we developed a trusting relationship with BL and mutual respect for one another.
The good news is, you won’t see any changes to the BL Sour Cream products because Turner’s will continue to make them using the same signature recipes. You can continue to enjoy the same crisp, clean flavor you already know and love.
